With November upon us, it will soon be time to start planning your decorations, get started on your search to find the perfect gift for all your loved ones and share in the magic of the season with your children, who will soon be anxiously counting down to the arrival of the big guy in red.  Read on for some great ways to get a jump-start on your holiday season.

The Sugar Plum Fair

Looking to get a head start on your holiday shopping? Then plan a trip to the Nottawasaga Resort’s  31st Annual Sugar Plum Fair Craft Show & Sale, on November 15th (9am – 5pm) and November 16th (10am – 4pm) should be the first stop on your list. There will be over 100 Ontario–based vendors selling a variety of unique handcrafted items ranging from fudge and ceramics to body care products, candles, Christmas décor, jewellery and much more! There is also a rumour that jolly old St. Nicholas will be stopping by each day from 11:30am – 1:30pm, to greet the children so don’t forget to bring your camera.

Cookstown Light Up Night

Light Up Night is a chance for everyone to come together and officially kick off the holiday season by lighting the Christmas tree on Queen Street in Cookstown. After the lighting, there will be caroling and an opportunity for youngsters to meet with Santa Claus before his big appearance later that evening in the Light Up Night parade. All the shops are also opened late, so you can look for the perfect gift and warm up at the same time.  The festivities will kick off at 6:30pm on Friday, November 14.

Hometown Christmas

Hometown Christmas, which takes place in downtown Alliston on November 22nd from 2–5PM, features a line-up of family friendly activities for all ages including the chance to meet with Santa’s Reindeer, decorate holiday cookies, have the kids faces painted, and listen to holiday music – all while drinking hot chocolate -- marshmallows optional but highly recommended! There will also be an opportunity for the kids to take a photo with the man in red, and share their wish list. That’s not all; there is the Tree Lighting on Mill Street at 5pm, followed by the Rotary Night-Lit Parade at 6pm.

Date Night

Or maybe you’re looking to enjoy an evening out together before the rush of the holiday season arrives?  The Nottawasaga Resort is offering their popular Date Night menu every Wednesday and Thursday, from November 19th to December 18th, which includes a shared appetizer, two entrées and shared dessert for just $50.  Call 705-435-5501 to book your Date Night.  Reservations are required.

So get out there, and get into the holiday spirit this November – you’ll be glad you did.  We’d love to hear your plans, share them on our Facebook page.
