6 Amazing Benefits To Getting Your Kids Into Golf

Posted by Treetops on Friday, 16 June 2017 in Lifestyle

june2017 1

One of the best parts of living in Treetops is having access to some of the top golf courses anywhere in Southern Ontario. While golf is typically seen as an activity for adults, kids and teens can benefit a lot from playing this time-honoured game. Here are six great reasons why you should consider getting your kids into golf.

#1 | Spend More Time Outside

june2017 2

In today’s technology-driven world, it’s nice to get some time away from high-tech distractions. Since spending more time with nature is shown to be good for improving your health and your mood, this is clearly one great reason to get your kids out on the fairways.

#2 | Great Way to Increase Family Time

june2017 3

When parents love golf too, it’s an amazing way to spend quality time as a family. Even if you’re a novice golfer, you can spend time at the driving range and improve your game together. With a driving range and affordable twilight greens fees, the next door Nottawasaga Resort is a great spot for an after work activity on those long summer evenings.

#3 | It’s a Valuable Business Skill

june2017 4

There’s an old saying that the most important business deals are done on the golf course. While this may not always be true, being able to play 18 holes with a client or your boss has always been a plus in the world of business. So why not start your kids early so they can enjoy all the benefits that come from doing business on the green.

#4 | It’s Safe & Healthy

june2017 5

Unlike many team sports that have a lot of contact, there aren’t too many major injuries you have to worry about in golf. Not only is it safer, but it also improves muscle tone, flexibility, and co-ordination. Since it’s a game that’s even senior-friendly, it really is a healthy activity that your kids can enjoy for life.

#5 | Learn Etiquette and Values

june2017 6

Manners and etiquette are a huge part of golf, and a huge part of life. By teaching your kids the key etiquettes of the golf course, you’re setting them up to have more social interactions and be courteous adults down the line.

#6 | Learn to Control Their Emotions

june2017 7

To be great at golf, you really need to keep your cool. Regular playing will teach your kids how to control their frustration, stay calm under pressure and reap the benefits of performing their best while being cool and collected.

Helping to care for a dog is an excellent way to teach your kids the value of responsibility and accountability. By encouraging them to be a part of feeding, grooming and walking your furry friend they will develop a sense of what it is like to be responsible for the wellbeing of another creature — a skill that will help them be a more considerate person throughout their life.

While dogs can’t talk, they still communicate plenty. So much of human communication is nonverbal — including facial expressions, body language and gestures — and children aren’t born understanding those things. By learning to understand your dog’s non-verbal communication it may help your kids to better understand human non-verbal communication too! This is just one of the many EQ benefits that child and parenting expert Denise Daniels attributes to dog ownership. Learn more here.

#4 | They Boost Your Mood

Did you know that petting or playing with a dog for just 15 minutes can improve your mood significantly?  According to a University of Missouri–Columbia study, this simple task releases the feel-good hormones serotonin, prolactin, and oxytocin, and lowers the stress hormone cortisol – making you feel more relaxed and calm.

#5 | They’ll Keep You Active

There are several studies that show that dogs can be effective motivators to get you moving.  According to researchers at the University of Victoria, dog owners walked an average of 300-minutes per week. This is almost 100% more than those who didn’t own dogs, who only walked an average of 168 minutes per week.  Our community will feature over 7 kilometres of trails – perfect for you and your furry friend to stroll, walk, jog, or run on.
